MALAWI'S WEATHER FOR THE PAST TWO DAYS   

Malawi experienced a short lived slight drop in temperatures which was quickly followed up by a hot and sunny weather across the country in the last two days. On 24th September, 2017, Kamuzu international airport (K.I.A) reported a minimum of which dropped to  11oC in the early hours of 25th September, 2017 while the rest of the stations reported minimum temperatures ranging from  13oC to  21oC.

 

SOUTHERN AFRICA REGIONAL WEATHER ANALYSIS            

Warm easterly air mass will be influencing the weather over Malawi till Wednesday. Subsequently, an incoming high pressure system off south east coast of South Africa is expected to create a convergence ahead of pressure rise, over southern areas and gradually progressing northwards.

 

WEATHER FORECAST FOR MALAWI        

Expect hot to very hot weather with haze over the country till Wednesday. Thereafter, expect isolated thunderstorm with rain accompanied by strong winds by Thursday later in the day, beginning with southern areas and gradually progressing northwards. 

SHIRE VALLEY:

(Areas along Shire river, Lakes Chilwa and Chiuta Valleys)

Hot to very hot and hazy till Wednesday. Isolated thunderstorms with rain and strong winds by Thursday afternoon which will be followed by partly cloudy conditions and a drop in temperatures till end of forecast period.

Forecast Temperatures: Ngabu Min. 17oC and Max 39oC

SOUTHERN HIGHLANDS:

(Shire highlands, Kirk Range up to Dedza)

Hot and sunny weather with haze till Wednesday. Expect scattered thunderstorms with rain and strong winds by Thursday afternoon which will be followed by partly cloudy conditions and a drop in temperatures till end of forecast period.

Forecast Temperatures: Blantyre Min.12oC and Max. 30oC

CENTRAL AREAS:

(Lilongwe, Mchinji, Dowa, Ntchisi, Kasungu and part of Mzimba District)

Mainly sunny and hot with haze weather expected till Thursday. Expect scattered thunderstorms with rain and strong winds by Friday which will be followed by partly cloudy and windy conditions with a slight drop in temperatures till end of forecast period.

Forecast Temperatures: Lilongwe Min. 12oC and Max.30oC

LAKESHORE AREAS:

(Areas along Lake Malawi)

Hot to very hot and hazy till Thursday. Scattered thunderstorms with rain and strong winds by Friday till end of forecast period.

Forecast Temperatures: Mangochi Min.18oC and Max.36oC

NORTHERN AREAS:

(All areas north of Mzimba)

Hot to very hot and hazy till Thursday. Expect isolated thunderstorms with rain showers and strong winds by Friday till end of forecast period.

Forecast Temperatures: Mzuzu Min.11oC and Max.29oC

WINDS IN MOST AREAS:

Generally easterly.
